My Experience at Flatiron and its Community.

It all started a couple months back when i took my first steps into a whole new world, I felt anxious, scared, and a heavy dose of Imposter Syndrome. From the start it was a massive commitment that would require a lot of work and hours of frustration, it was this frustration that kept me hooked! This is when i realized i made the right choice coming to Flatiron School and they provided me with the tools i needed to become a full stack developer. Even now i still have a hard time processing everything i’ve been through during the program. I’ve failed so many times i lost count and even gave up at one point, however it was the people at Flatiron that helped me overcome my failures to better myself. Im here to tell you it’s okay to fail, it’s okay to make mistakes that’s what your time at Flatiron is all about, learning from these failures to become a better developer and a better person.

The environment created by the Flatiron community is what separates them from other programs and of course traditional schooling. They put us into an environment where we will succeed and a place where you don’t have to feel alone. Everyone who commits to Flatiron will struggle, fail, feel imposter syndrome, and lose sleep, however no matter who you are this community will always be there to help you whenever you need it. From day 1 it was the instructors and coaches who helped introduce us to the world of programming, building up our confidence in our skills as developers. Eventually we used this confidence to venture out on our own and rely less and less on them. They did what most schools don’t do and that is take the time to help you as an individual. The Flatiron School has an amazing community and it was because of this communities willingness to help each other, that i am able to leave here with confidence in my skills as a developer.

I said it before in my first blog, committing to this program was not easy and it’s a big change for anyone who has never done any programming. We all took a chance coming here, from all sorts of backgrounds and we will continue to grow long after we leave Flatiron. No matter whether it’s your first day or your last, everyone is in this together here at Flatiron and someone will always be happy to help you in any way they can, you just gotta ask! For those interested in the Flatiron Program but are unsure if it’s the right move, contact the people from admissions at their email: admissions@flatironschool.com, or visit their website at https://flatironschool.com/ ,they are always at the ready to take any questions you may have. You won’t regret it because i know i didn’t

Lastly this goes without saying but throughout your journey at Flatiron the single most important people you will ever meet are your classmates/cohort. I was more than fortunate to be put in the fluffiest cohort anyone could want. It was this cohort that really showed me i am not alone. They gave me the confidence to tackle tough challenges because of their willingness to back you up if you needed it. They were always there to help and took the time out of their own personal lives to answer any questions i had.

As our journey comes to an end and a new one begins for us all, I will always remember our time together at Flatiron and want to say a sincere thank you, to our instructors, coaches, alumni, and of course you guys at 120720! Let’s finish strong and leave here together as the fluffiest cohort Flatiron has ever seen! Sincerely yours — Elvis.
